South African born, John and Rose now live in Sarasota, Florida.
They have been married for more than 20 years and have two
teenage sons, Matthew and Murray.
John was schooled at Grey in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. He
started sailing at the age of 12 on the Knysna Lagoon. His love of
the sea continued during a 2-year conscription to the South African
Navy as radar operator. This was followed by an honours degree in
B.Sc. (Building Management) at the University of Port Elizabeth.
After qualifying there followed a 20 year career in the Construction
and Property Development field where John become a Director of a
stock exchange listed company, and Managing Director of a
Regional Branch.
John has won many offshore yacht races off the coast of South
Africa. An Atlantic crossing was necessary to get Moonlight Magic to
the Caribbean. This included the Cape to Rio yacht race and a trip
up the coast of Brazil.
His extensive Caribbean experience covers the area between
Trinidad and Puerto Rico which includes the Grenadines.
John has a CASA (SAS) Yachtmaster Offshore qualification
including STCW95 Firefighting, First Aid, and Personal Survival at
Sea Certification, can navigate by sextant and is a NAUI Divemaster
and Rescue Diver. For fun he plays golf off a 6 handicap.
Rose attended Holy Rosary in Port Elizabeth followed by a B.Sc.
(Computer Science)(Cum Laude). She has worked for ICL, General
Motors and for the last 17 years run her own Computer Training &
Support business.
Rose loves to cook and has attended cooking courses with the
legendary Pat Jacobson of Port Elizabeth and has blended these
unique recipes to those of the Caribbean. Her outgoing nature
makes her a winner with guests.
